difference between name and x:name in xaml wpf??

Actually they both will refer to the same thing, but you have to use the x: prefix when defining a "UserControl".

The 'x:' part of the name in the XAML code is the reference to the XML Namespace the property is part of. It is possible that some element could have more than one namespace,

and each namespace has a separate 'name' property. In that case, you'd have to use x:Name and other NS:Name to reference them properly.

That is a namespace scope in the language. Just like "::" works in C++ to resolve the scope of the namespace to find the name of the variable or any object. In XML-oriented languages, such as XAML, "namespace:Object" is used to distinguish between multiple objects using their namespace.

I would recommend that you read the following MSDN article about "XAML Namespaces and Namespace Mapping for WPF XAML", https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms747086(v=vs.100).aspx. Basically, you can do the both, but "x:" puts the namespace catalogue to the addition too.
