How to do network load balancing

To install and configure network load balancing using Hyper-V Server as a virtual format

1. Set Up Hyper-V Server:

   • Download Hyper-V Server from the Microsoft website.
   • Install Hyper-V Server on a physical machine following the on-screen instructions.

2. Create Virtual Machines (VMs):

   • Open Hyper-V Manager on the physical machine.
   • Create one or more virtual machines that will host your network load balanced services.
   • Configure each VM with the desired settings such as memory, CPU, and storage.

3. Install Windows Server on VMs:

   • Install Windows Server operating system on each virtual machine you created.
   • You can use an ISO file or a physical installation disc to install the operating system.

4. Enable Network Load Balancing Feature:

   • Once Windows Server is installed on the virtual machines, open Server Manager.
   • Click on "Add roles and features."
   • Select the "Network Load Balancing" feature from the list and follow the on-screen instructions to install it.

5. Configure Network Load Balancing:

   • After installing the Network Load Balancing feature, open Network Load Balancing Manager from the Tools menu in Server Manager.
   • Click on "Cluster" in the menu bar and select "New Cluster" to create a new network load balancing cluster.
   • Follow the wizard to configure the cluster properties, including the cluster IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and dedicated IP addresses for each node.
   • Configure the port rules for the cluster, specifying how incoming traffic should be distributed among the nodes.

6. Add Virtual Machines to the Cluster:

   • In Network Load Balancing Manager, click on "Hosts" and select "Add Host."
   • Enter the IP address of each virtual machine (node) that you created earlier and click "Connect."

7. Start the Network Load Balancing Cluster:

   • Once you have added all the virtual machines to the cluster, click on "Cluster" in the menu bar and select "Start."
   • The network load balancing cluster will now be active and ready to distribute network traffic among the virtual machines.

• Not all Windows Server versions support NLB. Check you install a version that includes the NLB role, such as Windows Server 2019 Standard or Datacenter edition.
• Pay close attention to network adapter configuration during virtual machine creation (Step 2) of @Abhishek Yadav answer. You'll need at least two virtual network adapters: one for management traffic and another for client traffic.
• Check  firewalls on the physical machine and virtual machines allow communication on the ports used by NLB (default port for NLB traffic is TCP 4950).
