How to know when a cd is inserted and its contents read

I don't know how to read data from a drive. But if you want your app to monitor when an CD/DVD is inserted you will have to spy the messageloop of the NativeWindow. When the Message you recieve contains a SYSCOMMAND you can check if that SYSCOMMAND is an DEVICECHANGE. then you can marshal a DEV_BROADCAST_HDR from the lParam(I think) DEV_BROADCAST_HDR has a field named devicetype. If the devicetype is DBT_DEVTYP_VOLUME a volume is inserted. This can be a logical ,media or network drive. When you know it's a volume you can marshal the lParam to a struct called DEV_BROADCAST_VOLUME. This struct has the field named dbcv_flags. This flag can be 0, DBTF_MEDIA or DBTF_NET . If it is DBTF_MEDIA an media drive like a music CD or whatever is inserted into the tray. I hope I explained it right. It's from the head so it could contain mistakes. But it definetly shows you the path to follow to achieve your goal.
