Afzaal my concern was not to define a RAM size level to run any game. Actually I want to make him understand the real life scenario. You are right but I think you forgot to understand that I used one word "For example". That shows real life scenario & I think you also definitely care about the same during purchasing. And still I am thinking that RAM is used to run Software/Program. That's why during coding we caring about memory i.e. RAM. 

 

A example may be anything that really makes the thing simple not complex. That's why I have used.  

@Sujeet, your claim about games is wrong. I have Batman: Arkham Knight on my machine and 16 GB of RAM available. It doesn't run very well. 

 

Long story short, you are going to confuse the user, keep it to the programming context. :-) Your first paragraph is the only one I would say on-topic, others are off-topic. First paragraph because of purchase being made (he didn't ask to buy a new laptop) and the final one because of gaming (he didn't want a best gaming console).

Usually all software either developed or stored in HDD & runs in RAM. 

 

For example when we are buying any laptop/pc/mobile always asking about RAM as per requirement/use. Suppose if you like to play video games then minimum 2 GB RAM required to play games smoothly.

 

That's why when we are talking about memory means RAM.

RAM is concerned while talking about the memory, you should understand that memory term in computing is also used for the primary memory (RAM). The terms for HDD is secondary memory (not just memory) or storage.

 

Storage is usually used to identify the HDD space or the data in HDD. If someone is saying memory then he means RAM.
