Raspberry PI as Databaseserver for WPF

Question

Hi guys!

 

I want to connect a databaseserver to a WPF Application, to access it remotely. My plan is to set up a MySQL database on a Raspberry Pi and use it as my Server. As I am very new to server related topics, I wanted to ask if anyone has experience in it and could give me some advice. Is it possible to connect with the IP of the Raspberry Pi? 

I would be very grateful if you could recommend some good sources of information (books, videos,...).
