Reading data from remote file

I need to read data from a msi file which is available on my desktop. I have to create a web app where I need to specify the path of the file and read the data in the msi database. This file is dynamic and changes as needed. I should be able to open the web app on any desktop and read this file available on that desktop.

I do not have the facility to FTP the file in this case

You may setup a FTP folder and using the credential and certain open port (default is 21 otherwise specified) you can do so. You will need to System.Net namespace classes to send a request and read the response.
