Yes.

With experience I have seen and worked SSL certificates for intranet applications in big organisations.

If you are dealing with sensitive data, yes it is goodto have for intranet.

 

Practically it is good to have SSL, specially finance organisations despite internet ot intranet app.

SSL may not be required in an intranet application, it is meant for internet/public domains.

 

SSL protects you from packet sniffing applications in a way that the TCP/IP packets are not plain, but secured/encrypted.

 

having said that, do you think there are some users in your intranet who may try to sniff packets and wrongly capture some data - if yes, then it's more of a internal security and software audit related issue.

 

but final word is - there is no harm in using SSL in intranet too, if not helpful but not harmful too.
