Hii, Can anyone tell me that, What is the HTML5 Web Storage and how it differs from Cookies?

Web Storage

The web storage limit is 5MB and data is never transferred to the server, it remains with the client side. The storage is per domain or protocol.
Web storage allow you to store JavaScript primitives but not Objects or Arrays.
1) window.localStorage – stores data with no expiration date or can use javascript to clear or use clear browser cache
2) window.sessionStorage – stores data for one session lost when the browser tab is closed
Cookies:
================
Cookies are included in every server request and it is mainly used for server-side reading. Cookies allow you to store strings.
Cookies are used for authentication purposes and persistence of user data, all cookies valid for a page are sent from the browser to the server for every request to the same domain – this includes the original page request, any subsequent Ajax requests, all images, style-sheets, scripts and fonts.

web applications can store data locally within the user's browser.
Before HTML5, application data had to be stored in cookies, included in every server request. Web storage is more secure, and large amounts of data can be stored locally, without affecting website performance.

Before HTML5, web applications data had to be stored in Cookies, included in every server request. Storage limit of web browsers is limited to about 4KB.

Whereas Web storage allows web applications to store up to 5 MB of information in browser storage per origin (per domain and per protocol)

Web storage has two types: Local storage and Session storage

Local Storage:
//Set Data
window.localStorage.setItem("abc","xyz");

//Get Dat
window.localStorage.getItem("abc");
Session Storage:
//Set Data
window.sessionStorage.setItem("abc","xyz");

//Get Data
window.sessionStorage.getItem("abc");

use of web storage

window.localStorage.setItem('name', 'Obaseki Nosa');
var value = window.localStorage.getItem('name');

It is simple and store like key value pair

In Cookies, the storage limit is far larger at least 5MB, and information is never transferred to the server.

Whereas in Web storage is per origin:per domain and protocol. All pages, from one origin, can store and access the same data.

Just store the application data locally in the browser.

Before announcing Web Storage, we are storing data in cookies. now we are separate and store differently.
