Your question is very broad to answer but yes javascript libraries are the future of web development, in fact almost all web applications now a days use javascript libraries like Angular, Backbone etc. So yes the scope is bright. I agree with Sharma, JS libraries are an unavoidable thing in web development for quite some time now. Also even though there are alternatives to JS (for example Dart ), I feel like they are not used much and I have some doughs if they will ever replace JS entirely (at least at this moment I don't see it possible). So in short it is not just that you will not make a mistake in learning them, I would say that it is mandatory. Also I personally prefer Angular.js. Regarding the AJAX and JSON, well those are some of the fundamentals in JS so yea of course you should know them. If interested you can get some practice with them by trying out these HTML, CSS and JS coding tests . Last thing regarding node.js, I'm not sure why you put it as a part of a front-end developer's skill set because it is not... It is a back end technology and I believe one of its greatest advantages is building high performance applications. But the problem is that node.js is somewhat a minimalistic platform which focuses on performances over usability and maintainability. Because of this trade off it had a rather great outcome, a lot of developers where interested in using it. But I really believe that it does not have a bright future, interest for it has already decreased and it will probably continue decreasing because of the maintainability issue.
