A New Chapter Beyond Silicon
After concluding a distinguished 40+ year career at Intel in December, former CEO Pat Gelsinger is embarking on a mission that blends technology with human values. On Thursday, Gelsinger announced the launch of Flourishing AI (FAI), a benchmark designed to evaluate how well AI models support human well-being and align with core ethical principles.
A Partnership Rooted in Faith and Technology
The initiative is in collaboration with Gloo, a "faith tech" company Gelsinger invested in nearly a decade ago. Gloo aims to empower communities through technology, and Flourishing AI is the latest step in that vision.
Gelsinger, known for integrating his values into leadership, described the project as a natural progression. “I’ve lived at the intersection of faith and tech my entire life,” he told The New Stack.

The FAI benchmark draws inspiration from the Global Flourishing Study, a worldwide research project led by Harvard and Baylor University to assess human well-being. Gloo adapted the study’s six core categories.
- Character and Virtue
- Close Social Relationships
- Happiness and Life Satisfaction
- Meaning and Purpose
- Mental and Physical Health
- Financial and Material Stability
In addition, Gloo introduced a seventh category, Faith and Spirituality, to reflect the moral and existential dimensions often overlooked in current AI evaluations.

Evaluating the Future of AI Responsibly
Flourishing AI represents a growing movement toward responsible AI development. As large language models (LLMs) continue to shape human interaction, information access, and decision-making, the need for tools that ensure ethical alignment is more urgent than ever.
With this benchmark, Gelsinger and Gloo hope to shift the conversation from raw model performance to value-driven intelligence, encouraging developers to consider not just what AI can do but what it should do.
