Create an Employee Sign In/Sign Out App

Question

Hi,

I am trying to create an app for staff to sign themsleves in/out when they arrive and leave work. I am new to VIsual.net, learning C# and Xamarin. Can anyone tell me if I am heading in the right direction to create this app. Don't need to use SQL 2016, hopefully can be achieved within Xamarin?

What should I be using?
