Future of the Software Developer
I am a software developer (.Net) and have 5 years experience on same. My problem is what would be the future of my carrier. Would I be able to hang on the same filed or have to change to any new technology. I have no clue what the future trends will be. Could someone share some ideas what the things I should learn and any platforms. If I am changing my path what it should be(ex: I heard Information Security is more popular) like wise.

As a software developer you need to keep up with the new technologies to enhance more your skills. If you are stuck in a company that uses an outdated/old versions of technologies then that doesn't mean that you will just stop there. What I am trying to say is that learn new things during your free time to cope up with the new technologies. Participate in an online-community like C# corner for you to know what's going on with the technology nowadays.
Here are some of the technologies that are hip right now:
I'm pretty sure there are still lot of new technologies out there. Just make sure to choose the platform (Web Development, Mobile, DBA, IT Admin, etc..) that you are most interested to work with because that matters most.

You can work on new version of .net and step into cloud Microsoft Azure and there are lot of new things happening in azure,Visual Studio, WPF. windows 10 is also coming and you can build universal app. Try all these. Keep learning, enjoy learning.

In my opinion you should hang on what you know (.Net) and have experience, but with one or more trending technologies (big data, cyber security, software defined networks, boimetrics, etc.) as backup in case future of .Net diminishes.
Thank You.
