how to make days count down using date difference

Please i will like to see an example code on how to write a date difference date and have the days decrease. For consider two dates ( manufacturer's date and expiry date of an item)

i will like the days after the date  difference to be counting down, and to higlight after a particular interval depending on the number of days left for the item to expire
