I need to find the largest number from a file and display it

Hi,

Very new to C# and it's the first language I've tried to use.

I need to find a way to read from a file, find the largest number and display to console.

I am a total newbie at this and would appreciate any advice.

Hi Neil,

Just read file and create List and apply max function on list.
string[] lines = File.ReadAllLines(@"C:\Users\JigneshD\Downloads\test.txt");
           long max = 0;
           long score = 0;
           foreach (String line in lines)
           {
               if (Int64.TryParse(line, out score))
               {
                   if (score > max)
                       max = score;
               }
           }
           Console.WriteLine("Maximum Score is " + max);

Hi,

So I've got all the scores showing and the names but I am unsure how I can get it to just display the highest score and who it belongs to?

Hi and thanks for the reply.

It contains around 50-60 names with relevant scores of up to 200 points.

I'll havew a look at the link you posted, it's appreciated.

What is the contents of the file? For example, have a look at System.IO.File.ReadAllLines()
